These are questions that were asked by the audience during the SOA in the Digital Age webinar on Developments in SOA. In some cases, answers were given during the webinar, but the number of questions was so great that the panellists could only address a few of them. The questions are posted in this thread so that anyone with views can comment.

SOA Style Maturity

How do you see maturity of SOA architecture style evolve(or evolved) from Enterprise, Domain/Function and individual or a combination of Application Architecure? (Sundararajan Ramanathan)

The Open Group Service Integration Maturity Model (OSIMM) is relevant to this, but does not provide a direct answer to the question. See http://www.opengroup.org/soa/source-book/osimmv2/index.htm

Messaging Standards

Do you have a standard XML schema definition standard for message exchange within the travel industry? (Tony O'Donnell)

The Open Group does not, but other bodies including the Open Travel Alliance (http://www.opentravel.org/) and the Hotel Next-Generation Consortium (http://www.htng.org/) produce such standards.

Would it not be best to follow ISO messaging & EDI standards? (Peter Royal)

SOAP and REST

Isn't REST used to develop http based SO-App? (Nazmul Alam)

How secure are REST sevices as opposed to SOAP? (Krishna Mohan Avasarala)

What advantage does RESTful offer me over SOAP? I still need to define and enforce interfaces and definitions (Enterprise situation - multi system, internal and external consumers and providers, high message security  including eCommerce). (Paul Hawkins)

In Rest or In Soap, whenever there is a change or an update in the Input-Output message it required the change in the implementation area too.... Can this process be included in the soa governance, or can we have something in place which facilitate this type of change and montoring these type of changes ? (Vivek Kumar)

What standards should I look to with RESTful (Paul Hawkins)

Did he say: "use SOAP restfully" ?? (Milan Beles)

If you need to see examples of how to use REST SOAPly, see PeopleSoft delivered REST services. (Tamer Sakr)

@Mats: is that possible to use SOAP (=WS protocol) restfully (=no SOAP)? (Milan Beles)

Is that possible to use SOAP (=WS protocol) restfully (=no SOAP)?  -  Yes it is possible. (Vivek Kumar)

You can't implement SOAP in a RESTful way, however you can translate SOAP to REST in ESB enviorment. you can however write REST service as SOAP which I would not recommend. (Tamer Sakr)

For data representation I prefer REST.  For pure data exchange between systems I prefer SOAP. (Hermann Speiser)
